This is an exceptionally ancient and treasured traditional craft technique. It bestows upon the brush handles a level of luxurious decorative finish that is difficult to achieve through other processes.
As far back as four years ago, when we first experimented with gold leaf, we envisioned applying this foil gilding technique. However, at that time, we were unable to successfully overcome the challenge of creating a suitable protective surface coating. We also considered using a resin coating similar to that employed in our "Civilization Limited Series" for protection. Yet, this approach inevitably resulted in the loss of some fine details and aesthetic nuances, such as the crisp, sharp edges of the handles. Consequently, the pursuit of this technique had to be temporarily set aside.
Last year, a breakthrough arrived with OUMO's innovative development of the Glaze finishing process. This pivotal advancement means we can now utilize the Glaze technique as a foundational base layer, upon which we can create a variety of additional decorative surface effects. Therefore, the long-awaited foil gilding technique finally has a solid foundation for realization.
We are not limiting ourselves to simple single-color foils (like gold or silver) for the finishing. Instead, we will employ more intricate and sophisticated methods involving the blending of multiple colored foils to present richer and more diverse visual effects. The application of this technique will endow our products with an unprecedented, extraordinarily opulent chromatic expressiveness. Furthermore, these pieces featuring the unique foil gilding process, owing to their exquisite craftsmanship and distinctive aesthetic value, inherently possess unique collectible significance.
It brings us great joy to share the excitement of this technical breakthrough with you all.
